Minyan / Prayer Services at UAlbany
If it is your
first time, this might seem confusing, but we have a wonderful
harmonious system that is very special. After
just a few times, it's a cinch... be sure to see

additional
prayer
services:
Sunday Minyan Bagel
Brunches
at Shabbos House are once-monthly. Begin at
11am, followed by bagel brunch with all the trimmings.
Weekday Minyans
depend on student interest. Our first year here,
there was a regular Monday and Thursday Minyan in the Hillel Office
(CC-320). Since then, they've been more sporadic, if at all. Rabbi Mendel
teaches at Maimonides (local Jewish day-school) in the mornings, and is
therefore not available at this time. If there is
demand or interest - it will be possible!
RUACH -
Reform Havdalah Services
held on select weeks on various locations
throughout campus, at the end of Shabbat.
ROSH HASHANAH
SUNY Albany closes for this important Jewish Holiday, the Jewish New Year,
and no prayer services or dinners are held on-campus. Local synagogues and
families welcome students, so if you aren't going home (as most do) we (or
the folks at Hillel) can help you find a place in town.
YOM KIPPUR
Used to be huge on this college, and three services were sponsored by JSS
(and later Hillel) but then less and less students attended (or went home).
Being that there was some student interest, Shabbos House provided informal,
traditional services with a user-friendly format, and the turnout was much
better than expected, and by the 2nd year (2003) had grown considerably.
Now that
there's interest - Shabbos House and Hillel assist with arranging two
on-campus prayer services, a traditional service and a liberal service, with
a pre-fast dinner at Shabbos House, and a break-fast meal on campus. Check
schedule for detailed information.
SUMMER
No Minyans are scheduled, but now that we stay here throughout the summer,
Shabbos House does provide cozy Friday Night dinners, and students/alumni up
here for the summer are very welcome over. And be sure to check Schedule,
since we are not home ALL summer weekends.
