Shabbat Dinner Schedule
INFO
ALTERNATING
UAlbany is unique, where Hillel and Shabbos House (Chabad) work
cooperatively with each other. Friday Night Shabbat Dinners ALTERNATE
between Shabbos House and Hillel, and students feel welcome and attend both.
All
PRAYER Services (Conservative, Orthodox and Reform) as well as
many who come after the prayers, join together for
festive Shabbat dinner. This strong unifying sense of
community is one of Jewish UAlbany's highlights.
SCHEDULE and LOCATIONS
See SCHEDULE Page for where dinner is this
week. (Shabbat and Holiday events have a yellow background). Shabbos House
dinners are held at Shabbos House (see MAP for
directions) and Hillel dinners are held in UAlbany's Campus Center (usually
in CC 375 or the Assembly Hall).
EVERY SHABBOS
Every
Shabbos of the Academic Year there will be a Friday Night Shabbat Dinner for
you to go to.. either at Shabbos House or Hillel. You always have a place to
come to.
Starting Summer 2004, Shabbos House has begun
COZY SHABBAT dinners
for those up her summertime, but we will not be here all weekends, be sure
to check schedule).
SHABBAT LUNCHES & JEWISH HOLIDAY MEALS
All Shabbat Lunches and all Holiday (Sukkot,
Passover
etc.) Meals are at Shabbos House.
IS THERE A
CHARGE?
There's NO Cost to attend any dinner or festive meal.
WHO PAYS FOR IT?
Hillel dinners are paid by the Hillel Student Group Budget which comes from
your Student Activity Fee. Some supplementary funds come from other Jewish
Student Groups (also via Studetn Activity Fee) sponsoring themed Friday Nights such as Tagar etc. with
additional funds from the University at Albany Hillel (Rabbi Ben Shull,
Executive Director) which receives funding from Capital Region and NYC
Jewish Federations and from donors and supporters.
Shabbos House Dinners (etc..) are only possible because of the generous
contributions of Parents, Alumni, Students and Friends. It is thanks to so
many friends with large and small contributions that Shabbos House can do what
it does. There is NO funding from the University or National Chabad. Some
dinners are co-sponsored by the L'chaim (or Tagar) Student Group. We
also receive a small subsidy from the University at Albany Hillel for Friday
Night dinners. See "Funding
Page" and the "Sponsors Page".
