"Challah with Love"
a Jewish Community Service Project by UAlbany Students

Jason Kersch ('05) & Sarah Failla ('03) about to leave Shabbos House with dozens of Challahs to share with seniors (Fall 2002)

We've been baking Challah at Shabbos House for a long time, when someone thought - "Why not share this Challah with others?"

Thanks to Emily Rubenshtayn (who helps us with our kids when teaching etc) and Monyeh Zhvinakovsky (who helps with the huge mountain of dishes after Shabbos) - both from Jews from Russia - we were able to put together a list of area seniors who would most appreciate a homemade Jewish taste brought to their door.

While we can't do it all the time, the several times a year have been very rewarding to see the appreciation and excitement of many seniors to receive their own homemade Challah.

A little Challah goes a long way!

"Challah with Love"
Pre- Yom Kippur 5764 / 2003
is special thanks to

Farrah Fidler, Rachel Harris, Sam Gillman and Harriet Roffe, and the Maimonides High School Girls: Debbie Jellet, Devorah Leah Simon, Mazal Mardekhayeva, and Shaindy Klein
for making the dough, shaping and baking
over 100 high-holiday-style round Challahs.

Saul Maslansky, Nathan Tobin, Teri Goldstein,
David Gretah and Michele Adler

for bringing the Challahs to seniors in their homes at Bnai Brith Parkview Apartments, and to the Whitehall Senior Apartments.

<< This picture (and caption) was mistakenly labeled a "Challah with Love" event, when it was taken at the Pre-Rosh Hashanah Challah Baking a week earlier. But hey, Challah is Challah, and the Mitzvah is a Mitzvah.
