Why a Carport? Thanks to ever-increasing turnouts in Fall '03 (continuing a trend over the years) we're running out of space in Shabbos House. See the "Making Room at Shabbos House Page". While we can take out the Bima and the couches onto the deck when it's warm out, we can't do the same once the rain and winter sets in.. We kept searching for a way to temporarily close in the deck to gain some space before the new building goes up, but each solution was more expensive than the next. Until alumnus Oren Silvers came up with the carport solution, and in addition to paying for the material, spent a good part of several days putting it putting it up - together with help from students (Ben Lieb, Saul Maslansky, Jason Kersch...) |

![]() The Carport was fully closed in and ready for use in time for the overcrowded Dr Laz weekend. In addition to getting the couches out of the house, a group of stalwarts braved the cold and ate outside. At least it kept the bitter wind out, and the hot air rushing out of the house, and the small electric heater took a bite out of the cold. |
