Jamming Night
Jamming Night of Sat Night, Dec 4, 2004

Thanks to a very generous sponsor from NYC, the Israeli Band Shemesh vKochavim, was able to go on a whirlwind tour of College Campuses and synagogues throughout the Northeast. The band came in from Woodmere NY (where they spent Shabbat) a little after 9pm. We had a little taste of Jerusalem, as they played Carlebach melodies, some of their own original compositions, shared stories, inspiration and enthusiasm to those who stayed late on a Saturday Night. After the concert part, they sat down to jam and shmooze until the AM hours.

Our Jamming Night of 12/4/04 began with an awesome jam, jazzed up by the return of Jamming Night veterans, Albany Alumni Gabe Duci ('02) and Andrew Genger ('04).

Shemesh v'Kochavim, the Israeli Band playing at Shabbos House following Jamming Night..
Elyon Shemesh, the band leader, grew up  on the Carlebach Moshav, and now lives with his wife and children in the Judea Mountains. Mordechai Knapp, is originally from Montreal, where he was close with Moshe Rubin's namesake, Rabbi Mendel's grandfather, Reb Moshe Rubin, a beloved Chassid from Montreal. Today Mordechai plays music all around Jerusalem, where he lives with his family, and has an open home for musicians, on a spiritual note. Yisroel Abehsera, lives in Jerusalem, where he studies and plays music. His father is a noted leader in the Macrobiotic movement, and was known as "The Whistler" at the Farbrengens of the Lubavitcher Rebbe.
This Jam went on for hours, in many forms. In this incarnation, Gabe Duci is playing flute to "Pitchu Lee" with Elyon Shemesh and Avi (patron of the band from NY) on guitars. Small world indeed. Mordechai Knapp shared stories, jokes and insights that he heard from Rabbi Mendel's grandfather, R' Moshe Rubin. Elyon playing songs with Avi (from NY) and the students hanging out, late into the night.
