Pre-Rosh Hashanah Events

PRE-HOLIDAY TABLING: Awareness Tabling by L'chaim and Shabbos House at the Small Fountain (limited access now because of campus center renovation and construction). Get apples and honey, honey-cake, holiday packets and info.. 11am-2pm. No Shofar Factory this year, to return next year.

HOLIDAY PACKETS: Check your Quad Dining Halls for "Happy (Laffy) Sweet (Taffy) and Healthy (only two..) New Year!" , our best wishes and information on the Jewish Holidays at UAlbany...

ROSH HASHANAH - The Jewish New Year

Rosh Hashanah 2010 begins Wednesday Night Sept 8th through Friday Sept 10th (and goes straight into the Sabbath). We wish one and all: A Happy, Healthy and Sweet New Year, filled with much blessing.

Most students will be headed home for the Rosh Hashanah holiday, especially this year with the long extended weekend break, but for those who will remain up here, Shabbos House will be hosting traditional, campus-friendly services and holiday meals for both days of the Rosh Hashanah holiday.

Wed 9/8 Prayers 7pm Holiday Dinner 8pm
Thurs 9/9 Prayers 9:30am (Shofar at approx 11am) Lunch at 1/1:30pm
Thurs 9/9 Prayers 7pm Holiday Dinner 8pm
Fri 9/10 Prayers 9:30am (Shofar at approx 11am) Lunch at 1/1:30pm

Friday Night 9/10 7pm Prayers 8pm Dinner
Shabbat Morning 9/11 Prayers 10am Shabbat Lunch 1pm
Richard Morris, a comedian and comedy writer will be our guest at Shabbos Lunch. While he won't do a stand-up routine, he will lead us in a Teshuva-themed "Meet & Greet" over the meal.

If you will be up here, check back for updates and please RSVP (mail@shabboshouse.com or 438-4227) with us, so we can have a better idea on how to best prepare.

YOM KIPPUR - Day of Atonement

As every year, the pre-fast will be held at Shabbos House and the break-fast in the Campus Center, sponsored by UAlbany Hillel. Shabbos House and UAlbany Hillel team up to co-sponsor and lead the Yom-Kippur services. Part of which is (both evening services) done as a joint community in a traditional campus-friendly style, and some segments (during the daytime services) which are divided up according to denomination. All of the prayer services will be held in the Campus Center.

9/17: Friday afternoon 4pm-5:45pm Pre-Fast Dinner at Shabbos House
Kol Nidrei Services 6:30pm in the Campus Center, Room 375 (3rd Floor)

9/18: Yom Kippur Morning Services:
Traditional: 9:30am in Campus Center 375
Egalitarian: Terrace Lounge

9/18: Mincha and Neilah Closing Service 5:30pm in Campus Center 375
Break-Fast follows at 7:45pm sponsored by UAlbany Hillel
