Yom Kippur at UAlbany
5767/2006 - arranged by UAlbany Hillel & Shabbos House

Yom Kippur Sunday Night Oct 1 through Monday Night Oct 2 2006

Pre-Fast Dinner 4-6pm at Shabbos House
Students came/went, dinner was buffet-style - no tables. Plenty of meat-loaf went. Seems as though more students went home this year than last, Yom-Kippur this year being attached to a weekend. Yet, services were still fairly full throughout. Scroll down for Pre-Fast Pictures on bottom of this page.

Kol Nidrei  6:30pm at Campus Center Room 375
All Services joined in a campus-friendly traditional service. Yishai Cohen ('04) was Cantor once again, while Rabbi Mendel announced page numbers and running commentary. Many also used the accompanying Machzor-Notes (prepared last year by Rabbi Mendel).

Shachrit and Musaf - Morning Service
The morning service had a variety of options:

  • Traditional Service 10am-2:30pm at CC 375 with Yishai Cohen and Rabbi Mendel Rubin

  • Egalitarian Service at Terrace Lounge 10am with Rabbi Howard Cohen of Bennington VT

  • Afternoon Meditation & Spiritual Check-Up 1pm @ Terrace Lounge with Aviva Snyder

  • Yom Kippur Nature Walk 2pm leaving from Small Fountain with Aviva Snyder

Mincha & Neilah - Afternoon & Closing Service 5pm at CC 375
All Services join in a campus-friendly traditional service - once again led by Yishai Cohen (Mincha) and Rabbi Mendel (Neilah). Following Neilah Rabbi Mendel once again told the story of the Yom-Kippur drunk (by now a tradition while waiting for the Shofar sounding...)

Break-Fast 7:18pm CC 375 sponsored by Hillel, Bagels, Shmears etc..
