Sukkah Building BBQ '04
at Shabbos House
see Sukkah Farewell Page

At the end of the day, quite a few students were over to help, but for much of the day, it was a few hard-working folks who got the Sukkah up and the tent frame standing. Many of the same students came back the next night to get the tent covered. The Sukkah is a wonderful, hands-on, earthly Mitzvah that creates a special setting and atmosphere. There are some students that really appreciate and get a special "high" out of building the Sukkah. Thanks for them!

The Prez and the Veep. Jason Kersch and Dan Eisen of L'chaim get a crossbeam up. Dan Eisen helps get the crossbeams right. More people, new benches! Here Corrie Fierstein and Harriet Roffe are sanding them down.
Jason Kersch, master Sukkah builder, climbs out of the attic. Some Sukkah beams and bamboo sticks are stored up there. It takes a team! Pictured here doing the back wall: Max Wein, Saul Maslansky, Aaron Goldberg, Steve Linder, Jason Kersch, and Josh. Adam Kofinas, Hillel President, grills some food for those who helped out.
Zohar Kastner is an old hand at Sukkahs, and helped us get covered. A light moment in all that hard work. Sam's official spot atop the Sukkah in the corner, getting hard spots covered.
Aaron Goldberg holds one of the last walls in place. Oh, that middle beam. It holds up the whole Sukkah. So, which is the best way to do this?
Dana Gialanella (Jewish Life Chair at Hillel, and SH Intern) bakes A LOT of cakes with Corrie Fierstein. A lot of girls helped out with baking (cakes, cookies) all afternoon in the kitchen to be frozen for the holiday. Rabbi Mendel with more branches. We got lots of green cover this year, and there's always a few more spaces to fill. Untangling the lights! What a task.. the light strings for the tent get so twisted... Pictured here are Arielle (Hillel JCSC fellow), Matt  (Meteorology grad student, important for Sukkos) and Kim.
Moshe Rubin, cousin Moshe Cohen (from Australia), and Sara Rubin stand in front of the huge pile of Schach, cut evergreen branches. Wendy Miller, Haley Steinberg and Dana Gialanella hang out outside by the BBQ. Jessica Rosengarten stood all day in the kitchen, deep in batter, getting 30+ cakes mixed, baked.. for the Sukkot Holiday.
