PURIM UALBANY 5764 / 2004
Pre-Purim: Packets, Baking, Persian Wine Dinner..
with Shabbos House

Purim doesn't come "just like that". It requires lots of preparation and lead-up events at Shabbos House / UAlbany. We began with a Tuesday Learning Night on Talmudical Insights into the Megillah with the first round of Holiday Packets done that night. On the next night, Wed, we did some Hamantasch Baking, and completed packing the Packets. Then the packets needed to be distributed in all Quads. In the meantime, several days of preparation went into preparing a Persian flavored Wine Dinner for the Friday Night preceding Purim. Not to mention all the shopping, cleaning and food preparation. On Thursday Night following the Fast of Esther (pushed back this year) Hillel students made a BBQ Break-fast at Yishai's place (Shabbos House II) at 320 Fuller Road, hopefully soon to be the site of the new, bigger and better Shabbos House Jewish Student Center.

Preparing for Persian Dinner
Desiree Rastegar prepares a Persian (Iranian) dish (in bulk!) for Friday Night Dinner at Shabbos House. We had Okra with Tofu, Gondi and even some Tadik! Thanks Desiree! The Persian Wine Dinner was awesome, with great food, an assortment of wines, and warm joyous atmosphere. A great "Pre-Game" for Purim!
Holiday Packets in all Dining Halls
A basket in a UAlbany Quad Dining Hall with some of the 2000 Purim Holiday Packets, packed by students at Shabbos House. Each packet has a delicious Hamantasch cookie, a mini-noisemaker and a candy. Almost all packets were taken and enjoyed.. On Dutch, Colonial, Indian and State, not a single packet was left!!

Pictured are some of the many students who participated in packing 2000 Purim Holiday Packets to be shared on campus with fellow students in all the Dining Halls.. (this year including Empire!). L-R on all levels:  Shoshana Kurlantzik, Teri Goldstein, Daniel Small, Mushkie Rubin, Ally Newman, Sam Gillman, Adam Kofinas, Justin Hirsch, Michele Adler, Elise Cominsky, Josh Levine, and Wendy Miller.
