Hi-Def Havdalah and Drum Circle
celebrating Lag B'Omer 5767/2007

Sat Night 9pm May 5, 2007
at the Shabbos House Jewish Student Center

ABOUT LAG B'OMER
Lag B'Omer celebrates Jewish mysticism and Jewish Unity! It marks the passing of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, author of the Zohar and also marks the date when the plague affecting Rabbi Akiva's 24,000 disciples ceased. It is the day when Jewish law allows music and festivity during the long stretch of the Omer between Passover and Shavuot.

HIGH-DEFINITION HAVDALAH
Havdalah is a ceremony that marks the end of Shabbat, with blessings said over a cup of wine, a braided candle and fragrant spices. Lag B'Omer celebrates the mystical dimension which brings a "higher-definition" to Jewish life and learning, so this Havdalah will be enriched with additional singing and extra accessories.

DRUM CIRCLE
In Israel, many, especially in the Sephardic community, celebrate Lag B'Omer with lively drumming, rhythmic beats and chants - most popular of which is the "Bar-Yochai-Song." Dr. Michael Scher MD, a local internist and drumming enthusiast will lead everyone in an inviting drum-circle with a great vibe and energy.

REFRESHMENTS
Pareve Finger foods, veggies and dips, fancy cakes and more!
