Chanukah 2002 at UAlbany

Giant Menorah Display and Hot Latke Table at UAlbany's Campus Center, co-sponsored by the L'chaim Student Group. The menorah and hot latkes, brightened and warmed what were otherwise freezing cold dreary days. At night this Menorah was visible from as far away as the archways near Collins Circle.

"Celebrating Religious Freedom" poster on a pillar. Thanks to David Gretah for getting the word out.

Of 2,000 Dreidel Packets prepared and distributed in Dining Halls, only 110  remained. 1900 Dreidel Packets enjoyed by Students! See below for Dreidel Card...

Jason Kersch ('05) - Lchaim co-President - kindles the giant menorah on the 6th night of Chanukah - with assistance of Shmuly Rubin (hand seen lifting the lantern glass) and Scott Gultz (not pictured) who kept relighting the long matches.

Special Thanks to Rabbi Mendel's brother, Rabbi Shmuly Rubin (pictured above) for building a new menorah this year after last year's loss.

In what's become a welcome SUNY tradition (close to 20 years now) Shabbos House brought to each Quad Dining Hall, a large electric menorah display along with a bin of dreidel packets. We appreciate the assistance from the Chartwells staff, as well as the extra care given by UPD.

Lchaim's Hot Latke Table
...in the freezing cold!

Despite freezing temps (as low as 9 degrees even without the windchill factor) students braved the cold to serve and enjoy sizzling hot latkes outside the Campus Center near the small fountain.

Bundled up against the bitter wintry chill, these dedicated students volunteered their time on two afternoons to sizzle and serve hundreds of mini-latkes to fellow students, sharing the festive holiday spirit.

Maimonides High School Students assist with the first hour of each day at the Latke Table. (L-R) Debbie Jellet, Sarah Morgenbesser, Chanchie Tenenbaum, Devorah Leah Simon, Shaindy Klein and Mazal Mordekhayeva.

Thank you to Harriet Roffe of L'chaim for speaking to all the necessary people and offices to have everything approved.

2,365* mini-latkes served!
