Special Address by Dr. Donald Siegel,
Dean of the University at Albany Business School.
Dr. Don Siegel is the new dean of the School of
Business, and Professor of Management at the University at Albany, with
expertise in technology transfer, corporate social responsibility,
entrepreneurship and and business innovation. He received grants and
fellowships from the Sloan Foundation, NBER, National Science Foundation and
the U.S. Department of Labor. Professor Siegel was ranked among the top 1%
of economists worldwide and is a member of the Secretary of Commerce Advisory Committee on "Measuring Innovation in the 21st Century."
Professor Donald Siegel addressed the graduates with positive tips on making it in today’s economy, the advantages of a social network, how effort factors into the ability equation, and on reinvigorating entrepreneurship in a challenging economic time. |

A hearty laugh during the Senior Roast (a powerpoint presentation based on the Dummies Book format) prepared by Genna, Jamie and Barbara, all juniors. Rabbi Nomi Manon, director of UAlbany Hillel spoke to the graduates about patience, optimism and volunteer opportunities for those who don’t have jobs lined up yet. |
Rabbi Mendel and Raizy presented each graduate with the new printing of the Shabbos House Cookbook, and a letter inside that highlights their personal accomplishments and communal contributions to Jewish UAlbany. Rabbi Manon presented each graduating senior with the traditional UAlbany Hillel gift of a framed Chamsah with Fountain Day in the background of the words "Blessed be your comings and goings". |

Adam Kris, President of the Hillel Student Group, led the
team that schlepped the couches out of Shabbos House every other Friday
afternoon, and set-up the room to maximize the number of students got a
Staples Easy-Button, engraved with “easy-going, never a problem dedication” Jonathan Dickens received the “Iron Minyan Man Award” for never missing a Shabbos morning Minyan, in the form of a book-clock that read: “On-Time and Meaningful Times” Joanna Smith, an art history major and theater minor, received an engraved saltshaker that read “spicing things up at Shabbos House” Sheryl Hoffman, President of the L’chaim Student Group, received an engraved measuring cup that read “abundant measures of dedication and friendship” Marisa Butensky, who was very involved with the Jewish
Womens Group and it’s craft projects received an engraved paintbrush that
read, “for adding color to the Jewish Womens Group” Mike Pekuly, a regular at many events, and a Jammin’ Night
enthusiast received a wooden exclamation point that read “enthusiasm and joy
at Shabbos House.” |
