Grad Party - Farewell to the UAlbany Class of 2007 at Shabbos House

UAlbany Class of 2007 active at the Shabbos House Chabad Jewish Student Center, University at Albany Hillel and in the UAlbany Jewish Community.

GRADUATES INCLUDE Spring, Summer and Fall 2007 graduates and Masters degrees.

 

Top three are graduating, bottom three are freshmen coming up the ranks and bringing new life into the UAlbany Jewish community. A doctoral student, Joy Newman with two graduating seniors - Shaun Bennett and Ally Newman. Rabbi Mendel presents a SH cookbook (with inscribed letter) to senior Dave Rozen, well-known around campus for his school spirit and efforts.
Mr. Robert Herman speaks to the Graduates, about freedom and responsibility, mostly using humor. Raizy presents Mr. and Mrs. Bob and Bea Herman with a Shabbos House Cookbook. Zohar after receiving his  "UAlbany Chamsa" gift from Aviva Snyder, director of UAlbany Hillel.
Ariel is one fine food tester. Coming from his Brooklyn expertise - not bad at all. The food at the Grad Party is a special treat. homemade sesame chicken, pepper steak... Happy Ilana is finishing her masters program in education. Marissa (r) will be on Hamag and L'chaim boards next year. Mazal Tov to Laura and Natalie - Laura is off to Medical School and Natalia is off to Law School, both (probably headed) for PA.

THE EVENT
began with a hot-buffet featuring the special hot dishes Raizy prepares for the annual Grad-Party: Sesame Chicken, Pepper-Steak, Mini-Meatballs and Shells, Rice, grilled Veggies, fruit and cookie platters, and a little Sangria for the seniors. Followed by the Phoot-Memories powerpoint slideshow.

SPEAKER
Guest speaker this year was Mr. Bob Herman, who spoke to the students about balancing freedom and responsibility as Jews and as Americans, and shared humorous stories and jokes with the students.
Bob Herman served in senior staff positions for the NYS Assembly and Senate, was Assistant Director of Division of the Budget, directed the commission for the Constitutional Convention in 1967, and retired from government in 1999 as director for Traffic Safety. He did fiscal consulting for Greece, Turkey, India, Peru and Iran. Today, from his home in nearby Slingerlands, he has become one of the most read American writers in China through his magazine columns and witty “Bob-isms”.

PRESENTATIONS & GIFTS

Shabbos House > Graduates:

Rabbi Mendel and Raizy of Shabbos House presented all graduates with a Shabbos House Cookbook along with a personal letter highlighting the individual achievements and contributions of each graduate.

In addition, fourteen seniors were presented with a certificate recognizing their completion of several semesters (for some - four years!) of “Torah Tuesdays” study at Shabbos House.

Twelve were presented with special gifts engraved with recognition for their exceptional service and dedication to the community.

UAlbany Hillel > Graduates:

Aviva Snyder, director of UAlbany Hillel presented each graduate with a framed UAlbany “Chamsa” custom-designed by Elliot Cowen, outgoing Hillel engagement associate. It features a faded picture of UAlbany’s fountain-day in the center, with the traveler’s blessing all around in Hebrew and English.

Graduates > Shabbos House:

This year’s senior class gift was a state-of-the-art HP computer system, super-speed and super-capable, for use at Shabbos House. It came along with a photo-printer, scanner and copier, and a wide LCD flat screen. (Thank you!!!)

A set of new Mezuzot scrolls and beautiful covers for Chapel House.
