PROGRAM INFORMATION

The event is called for 11:30am with a ribbon-cutting ceremony outside the new Shabbos House, weather-permitting. We hope to begin the speaking-portion of the program (with brief, meaningful greetings and thoughts at this historic milestone) shortly after 12pm. We hope to have speakers representing current students, alumni, university, government officials, and community. There will be a sweet buffet of delicious food and desserts, and the program will conclude with the joyous transfer of the Torah from 316 to its new home in 320. There will also be tours of the new building.

We are not collecting RSVPs, but it would be helpful for us to know which alumni will be coming up.

Further details will be posted here as it becomes available...

NEW SHABBOS HOUSE "REGISTRY" INFO

It's going take a while until we outfit and decorate the new Shabbos House, little by little. Getting the new mortgage paid monthly will be challenge enough! But friends have asked us to put together an online registry where people can purchase small or large practical gifts that will be used at Shabbos House...

We signed up with MyRegistry.com - which allows us to list goods from multiple stores. We started off with a few items and we'll keep adding to it - as time goes on and we have a better idea of what's needed.

Here's the link to the Shabbos House Registry on MyRegistry.com

PARKING INFORMATION

A limited number of parking spaces will be available at the Commissary lot across the old Shabbos House, just off Fuller Road. Additional parking spaces are available to our guests in the Dutch Gold (Student) Parking lot adjacent to the tennis and basketball courts just south of Dutch Quad.

Students coming from the Quads are encouraged to walk over, even though it isn't the Sabbath, and for those along a bus-route, buses that stop at (a) SEFCU Arena (b) Collins Circle (c) Stuyvesant Plaza - are all a short walk from Shabbos House on Fuller Road.

Shabbos House Sweet Beginnings - appropriate for the opening day celebration as it falls one week before Rosh Hashanah when we wish one another a Happy and Sweet New Year.

Please join us (if you can) to dedicate the building and open the doors of greater possibilities and transition to a new era. We look forward to creating new memories for future generations of students, while continuing the old, beloved traditions of "the little house that could" serving UAlbany since 1976. "Sweet Beginnings" means that this is only the start of many new wonderful Jewish celebrations in the future!

About the new Shabbos House:
Shabbos House, the Chabad Center serving Jewish students at UAlbany since 1976 has long outgrown its current facility at 316 Fuller Road. Too many participants is a wonderful problem, but see "Good Problems, Better Solutions" (pdf) for ways the new Shabbos House building will be bigger and better. The "little house that could" can do better with an appropriate facility. (see floor plans here (pdf). See these PDF pages for why so many people are investing in Shabbos House (pdf). (Please note that large PDF files may take a minute or two to load).

Check the latest issues of the "What's Cooking?" update newsletter (all in PDF format) for more information, or contact Shabbos House: Phone: 518-438-4227 or email: mail@shabboshouse.com
