320 Demolition
Activity Scheduled for May 2008 |
The old 320 is
scheduled to be demolished during the month of May 2008 to make room for
the long-anticipated, new, bigger and better Shabbos House Chabad Jewish
Student Center.
While there's much
excitement in the progress going forward, 320 is home to many memories -
both for the Shabbos House Students living there since 2000 and the
Fricke Family who lived there before its sale in 2000. A "Farewell to
the Old 320" celebration is planned for following the Grad Party on
Sunday, May 11th, 2008, approx 7pm.
Scheduled at 320 for
May 2008:
- Asbestos
abatement and exterior tile removal begins May 1st
- Land-Survey by
Hershberg & Hershberg of Albany for precise property line
- Geo-Tech
sub-surface testing for structural strengths by Dente Engineering of
Watervliet
- Tree-Removal on
Property (based on survey) to make room for house and water-collector,
new planting and landscaping planned for later construction phase
- Silt-Fence to be
in place following tree-removal and before excavation
- "Farewell to Old
320" after the Grad Party on Sunday May 11th
- Demolition of the
Old 320 TBA after May 13th

Asbestos Removal |
 |
|
During the first week
of May, a company was hired to test and remove all asbestos from 320
before demolition permits could be issued. Pictured above is the north
side of 320 with all external asbestos shingles (they were gray in
color) removed. |

Following the Grad
Party - Farewell to the Class of 2008 at Shabbos House, on Sunday May
11th, a special pre-demolition ceremony to bid farewell to 320 Fuller
Rd.
ABOVE Rabbi Israel
Rubin of Capital Chabad addresses the assembled outside 320 Fuller Rd,
tells the history of the long struggle to get this Shabbos House built,
of the initial resistance by Mendel and Raizy to purchase the 320 parcel
(it was too much money..) and he explained destruction isn't really a
Jewish or positive thing unless it leads (as in this case) to something
much better...

and inscription: "BUILDING the new bigger and better SHABBOS HOUSE"
We removed all the

Firefighter Training
at 320
5/26/08 |
 |
 |
|
The McKownville Fire
Department which services this area of Guilderland used the 320 garage
and house for firefighter training (without fire or water) in the late
evening of Memorial Day. Pictured above they're using a chain-saw to
simulate a rescue into a house without other access available. They
broke windows in the house, used thermal glasses to check for simulated
hidden fire around the home, and tested the steps for structural
integrity among other training exercises. |
