Building Committee
approves contract
4/16/08 |
At a meeting today the
Shabbos House Building Committee met and gave the go-ahead (despite the
current financial fundraising gap) for Shabbos House Chabad Center to
sign a construction contract with Yefim Baskin of Baskin Custom Homes
Construction, which we hope to do as soon as possible. We will soon
set-up an online photo page/blog with
ongoing construction progress, as well as mailing an updated
Building Brochure to all Shabbos House friends with an updated
construction timeline and dedication opportunities.
During the
discussion about the missing 600K yet to be raised, one of the
participants received his daily motivational email via blackberry that
read something like this: "Don't be afraid to take chances, if you don't
take chances you won't be successful and it won't get done." It got a
great chuckle and helped set the theme that the construction has to go
forward even before we have all the funds in place.
Rabbi Israel Rubin
pointed out that there were 3 sets of people around the table,
representing the 3 Pillars upon which the world rests (Ethics of Our
Fathers) "Torah" representing those who run Shabbos House, "Service"
refers to the architect and engineer who volunteered many professional
hours on this project and "Acts of Kindness" are the major supporters
behind this project.

Shabbos House and Yefim Baskin of Baskin Custom Homes seen here signing

Underground Utility
Markings at 320 Fuller Road |

In preparation for site-work and demolition, Yefim contacted all utility
companies running cables and pipes underground and they labeled their
utilities with the colored flags pictured above in front of 320 Fuller
Road. Turns out that we have more utility lines/pipes to the site than
originally thought which may turn out to a cost-savings. |

Emptying the 320
Garage |

The 320 Garage was filled with Sukkah Boards and Beams and Bamboo-Mats,
the Lake George Minyan Tent Poles and Tarps, and a number of other
things. During Pre-Pesach cleaning with the help of Rabbi Israel Rubin,
Yisroeli and Maishe Backman, Jason Mendelsohn and Chase Lefkowitz, we
got the Sukkah and Tent materials out of the garage and into an
alternate storage. Obviously, there's more to empty in the house itself,
but you have to start somewhere!
Rabbi Mendel's
brothers, Ephraim (a Rabbinical students in Morristown NJ) and Motti (in
the Albany Mesivta - Maimonides High School) made a few car-load trips
of books and Capital Chabad storage stuff out of the house.
Available: several
couches, end-tables, cast-iron radiators, cabinetry. If you are
interested in taking any of this stuff in the very near future please
call Rabbi Mendel and Raizy at Shabbos House 438-4227. |
