Visits with Shabbos House & UAlbany Alumni
Presidents Week 2008

Having great friends leave after four years is one of the hardest things about running Shabbos House. That in turn is also a blessing, getting to meet and know so many good friends over the years. As time passes, it's harder to keep in touch with alumni, which is why we scheduled some alumni visits over New Years 2008 and now again for Presidents Week 2008. Obviously, we can't meet everyone each time, but we hope to over time get to see as many old friends as possible. And of course, there's also the annual Summer Reunion in NYC, and alumni are always welcome back up here for a visit.

At the Hakimi home in Great Neck, with Jason and his family, cousin Eitan (now in Law School), and cousin Josh Cohen, now a freshman at UAlbany. We also were excited to see Matthew Eliassi, whom we have not seen for quite some time.

With Ronnie and Lauren Simhon, both UAlbany alumni, living in lower Manhattan. Mazal Tov to Ronnie on his graduating law school.

A visit to Zohar ('07) and his family in Manhattan. His parents told us a remarkable and memorable story about their recent visit to Tunisia and their encounter with a magnificent but neglected synagogue (and its elderly Jews) there.

• Steve ('98) and Rachel and their daughters Ruthie and Elisheva in New Jersey, where we also saw the Nadells.

• Eric ('05) and Jeremy ('05) in Flatbush - actually in Dougies - where in addition to good food, great company and catching up, we studied together a "Torah Tuesdays" text.

• Marshall in Manhattan, in middle of a busy work-day.

• Rachel Commer ('00) in her new apartment in Kew Garden Hills.

• Rachel Barnehama, who transferred to Queens College.

• Raizy's family - the Galperins for a wonderful four day visit (when we weren't out visiting alumni).
