3rd Annual NYC Alumni Reunion 5765/2005
Sunday, July 17th, 2005 at Midtown Chabad 5th Ave (near 42nd)

More Pictures at Picture Page #2

See Reunions of other years...

Group Photo taken midway through the reunion. The event ran from 4-8pm, some came earlier, some later...
Alumni Families and Kids... Pictured above are the Marzouks, Segals, Islers, Fischs, Lotwins, Muhlbauers and Rubins. The Seinfelds came later in the evening after celebrating Michal's 2nd birthday.

Around tables at the Reunion... in addition to meeting old friends and catching up on the latest, the program included 2 alumni speakers Andrew Genger ('04) and Stacey Lotwin ('01) as well as an update on the University by alumnus Brian Levine (now a Budget Analyst with NYS Civil Service) and a regards from Jewish Student Life by Ally Newman (who also took many of these pictures.. Thank You!). Raizy Rubin gave an update on the Zoning process and the much anticipated new Shabbos House building, and a powerpoint presentation was shown titled: "Changing, but still the same". A souvenir CD-ROM had the powerpoint presentations of the alumni reunions of 2004 and 2005.

Rabbi Mendel welcomes all to the Reunion and thanks all for coming. Sara Rubin got a little overwhelmed, so she's sitting right up there, too. To the right of Rabbi Mendel is Chaim Spilman ('02). The timing of the Reunion is always hard to plan as no one time is ever good for everyone (a number of alumni were taking the bar-exam this week, some had family occasions, camp visiting day etc..) but we were excited that this time worked out so Chaim could come.

It was exciting to welcome Ben and Teri back from a year in Israel, and wish Mazal Tov to Marc and Dawn on their recent engagement. Just after the reunion Jason Nadell proposed to Roni, Mazal Tov! Thanks to all who came out and made this reunion very special! Jason and Jodi Spizter couldn't make it, as they just recently celebrated the Bris of their 3rd son Chaim Moshe (Seth and Sammy are their twins).

People Updates (somewhat in the order of the group photo above, beginning in top left corner. We only listed "people updates" for those attending the reunion who we have info/updates about).

Andrew Genger ('04) does promotions and advertising for Clearchannel Radio. His day now begins at 5:45am.

Gabe Duci ('02) now does programming for a document transfer company in Long Island. His days as a courier (aka listening to inspirational talks and music while traveling) are over for now, but he will always find time for good music and meaningful thoughts.

Ed Levin ('01) now has an office in Northern NJ for his company International Point of Sale, mostly run online.

Dan Muth ('04) works for the national offices of the JCC Association in Young Adult Programming.

Ben Lieb ('04) spent a year studying at Ohr Sameach in Jerusalem, and looks forward to another year in Israel as Counselor in the Reshit Yeshiva for Americans, and moonlighting at a neighboring Yeshiva.

Saul Maslansky ('05) was accepted to Cardozo Law School where he will attend this fall. He is already planning to be back up here with Jason for the Sunday of Sukkah Building.

Brian Levine ('02 and then a Masters) just began a new job as Budget Analyst for the NYS Dept of Civil Service. He lives up in Albany near Washington Park, and stays active Jewishly and politically.

Mark Wolensky ('02) announced his engagement to Dawn Markofsky, and we're glad to see the both at the reunion. Mark lives in NJ, and now sells insurance through State Farm, after some years with Northwestern.

Mike Kashani ('03) is a financial analyst for Standard and Poor's in the non-profit and education sector. He is now considering going to Graduate School for an MBA.

Dave Shaverdi ('03) has been traveling the country (and even been to Albany!) doing sales, opening and managing accounts for the jewelry business, particularly with settings for precious stones.

Arie Lipnick ('03) manages PR and Community Relations for NYC Councilman Simcha Felder. He was recently hired to manage an election campaign in Westchester as well. (Anyone interesting in summer internships in political campaigns should get a hold of Arie).

Dara Stofenberg ('05) who graduated with many honors this Spring, was considering going for an MPA at Albany's Rockefeller School of Government, but decided to spend some time working in Washington DC before deciding on a Graduate program.

Oren Silvers sold his nutritional supplements and beverage company to a Rhode Island company, for whom he remains NY area Manager (or some similar title). He travels around a lot for business and otherwise. This Winter he have us a very useful, hardy Buick Roadmaster stationwagon, as an extra car, and to load up with deliveries.

Mitch Greene ('00) now works along with Jason Nadell and Nadine Kochavi at the JDC, the world-renown Joint Distribution Committee which helps Jewish (and other) communities in need or distress.

Farrah Fidler ('04) works for a PR company dealing with the Home Improvement industry. She recently spent two weeks in Israel.

Linda Lampert ('03) worked in HR for a security services company, but is now switching over to Bank of New York in the HR department.

Marshall Haber ('04) worked for Duetsche on Madison Ave, and while he finds another PR company, he is involved with a number of ventures including graphic and website design, and www.krazykeepas.com. He donated a whole bunch of these unique kippahs for use at Shabbos House (and Moshe loves them too).

Stacey Brecher ('04) works with the National Council of Jewish Women (advocacy etc) in Manhattan.

Seth Mellin ('02) works at the Vonage Phone Company, and runs his own promotional marketing company: www.smcreativemarketing.com

Mike Lowenstein ('02) after some years studying Bio-engineering and working on IT projects, Mike is headed for Medical School at NYCOM on Long Island.

Scott Weber ('02) oversees construction projects and spending for Marty Markowitz, Brooklyn's Borough President. After getting an MPA at Baroukh, Scott is exploring going for an MBA, and doing some work that combines both educations.

Craig Brimmer, Melissa Morse and Ayal Cohn ('04) all just graduated UAlbany, and we look forward to hearing good news from them. Melissa's dad is not well, and we wish him, her and family all the best.

David Fienerman is now in HR at a NY Law firm, after years at Eisner. He has considerable experience in HR.

Sarah Failla ('02) lives in busy Manhattan but somehow makes enough time to spend with her mom on their goat farm in rustic Pleasant Valley near Poughkeepsie. She works at YIVO editing an encyclopedia on Eastern European Jewry, and does some part-time at Barnes and Nobles.

Jeff Wertheim ('99) does accounting and auditing work, and brought us regards from Levi Schreiber's (former Shabbos House family) Bar-Mitzvah in West Hartford on May 8th of this year.

Ron Carroll ('99) still works in stocks and bonds, maintains his great sense of humor, and spends some of the hot summer days out on the Hamptons. No, he doesn't have a place out there, but likes the beaches..

Aaron Blum ('99) lives in Queens and after some time with one company is now looking to work for the NJ Devils.

Dave Muhlbauer ('98) now Dr. Dave, with wife Adina and daughter Leah. They live in Manhattan near Mt Sinai where Dr. Dave does his rounds in anesthesiology. Once done at Mt Sinai they're looking to move to another NY area community. This was our first time to see Dave since his graduation, we're so happy he could make this reunion (though he missed Pinchas who had his father's unveiling and son's camp visits on this day).

Josh ('00) Faith ('99) and Judah Fisch live out in Hillside NJ, outside Elizabeth, where they really like the welcoming and relatively affordable community. Josh has become the head of his unit at Citigroup which is why he came from his office on Sunday, cause there's work to get done. Same Josh we knew at Albany.

Steve ('99) Rachel and Ruthie Isler live in West Orange NJ. Steve works at Citigroup. They just returned from Huntington Beach, California where Steve's twin Charles ('99) got married to Malka Kohn.

Jason ('99) Nadell (can we still call him "Noodles"?) announced his engagement to Roni Grill on the night following the reunion. We're very happy and excited for both of them! Much happiness always. (despite this upcoming personal development, Jason still had the calm presence of mind to teach me a few tips following the Powerpoint presentation..). Jason does IT work for the JDC.

Jay Taubman ('02) is now Librarian at the Borough Park branch of the Brooklyn Public Library and regularly attends Torah classes in Flatbush where he moved.

Dan ('01) Atara ('02) Noah and Ben Marzouk live in Linden NJ (near Elizabeth). Dan has a regional managerial position with Universal Underwriters, a car dealership insurance company, and Atara works at the local "Y" where her twin-boys now attend. They're just about to turn three years old, and look very wise in glasses.

Fred ('01) Stacey ('00) and Rochie Lotwin live in Kew Garden Hills in Queens NY. Fred works at a Long Island bank in the back-end Mortgage department. Little Ruchie was all over the place at the reunion.

Nadine Kochavi ('00) works at the JDC (she got Noodles and Mitch both hooked up there). She's involved with Jewish stuff on the Upper West Side, and was shocked to see the Shabbos House cookbook in a friend's apartment (until she discovered the Albany connection..)

David Gretah ('04) is at Grad School in Brooklyn College, and beginning his student teaching in the Fall. In his spare time he is also an official baseball umpire, and does games all around Brooklyn.

Jason Kersch ('05) does sales and consultations for Major Homes, his dad's home improvement business. He especially enjoys creating computer generated renderings to show potential clients the various possibilities. We also wish his paternal grandmother and maternal grandfather a speedy and complete recovery from their illness.

Chaim Spilman ('02) is glad to be back (and eating!) for two weeks, but is scheduled to head back out a mere two days after the reunion. Hope all goes well, success in his work and safe all around.

Harriet Roffe ('04) lives downtown in Albany as she pursues her MPA at Albany's Rockefeller College. Even as a grad student she's stays pretty involved with Jewish life, and stays uptown for some Shabbos House weekends.

Teri Goldstein ('04) is back from a year of study at Yeshiva in Israel. She will be attending Albany again for Graduate School in the Fall. We look forward to having Teri back!
