Alumni Working in Albany |
Karen Buff ('03) works at "LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene
& MacRae", while she is in school to get a para-legal degree.
Susan Skerker ('03) works for a State agency on Disabilities helping County
governments keep their computer programs in sync, Brian Levine
('02/'04) now works
full-time for the New York State Assembly Committee on Local Governments,
Bethanie Lesser ('04) works for Chuck
Schumer's Albany district office, Harriet Roffe ('04) will be attending
graduate school at the Rockefeller College (SUNY Albany) in the Fall.
Harriet is now on a lengthy and exciting trip in Asia, with stops at
Chabad Centers in China, Thailand etc.. Leah (Wolff) ('03) is married to David
Pellingra, and they live in the Albany area. Leah teaches at the Ohav
Shalom Nursery School, in the same building where our children attend
school (Maimonides), so our kids are excited to see Leah almost every
day. During the summer Leah is a unit head at the Schenectady JCC's Camp
Chaverim. We very much enjoyed having Leah and David for Shabbos on a
quiet week in the summertime.

New Jobs |
David Gosman ('98/'00) and a partner bought out the
pcamerica.com inventory management computer business - founded by
David's father, which graciously hosts the
Shabbos House website. David and his wife Stacey (who also has a new job
after years of work in a magazine) moved to a new home in New
City NY. Sara
Klau ('01) and Dave Shor ('01) worked together for
Ernst & Young, and now work together for PS&G, the Power Company. ("not
exactly climbing utility poles"). Sara (Kline) ('99) and Gabe Solomon moved to Baltimore
MD following Gabe's graduate degree in Philadelphia where they lived
last. Mandi Weber is Youth Director at the
Midway Jewish Center, Syosset NY and also teaches at an area religious
school. |
| |
A trio of alumni (Andrew Genger ('04), Daniel
Muth ('04) and Matt Lissauer ('03)) just returned from a
whirlwind tour of Europe. Andrew and Dan recently graduated UAlbany, and
Matt now completed graduate school of Journalism at Quinnipiac
University. Andrew excitedly shared with us anecdotes and "verbal
images" of his fascinating and memorable trip, after a Friday Night
dinner at Shabbos House in the quiet summer months. |
| |
Joel Wurtzel ('04) now does statistics for
MetLife. It should be noted that Joel received a family settlement from
his grandparent's reparations from Germany/Austria, and his mom advised
him to find a Jewish organization that works to ensure a Jewish future.
Joel gave his entire portion to Shabbos House and it is set aside for
the Building Fund. Ben Tabar ('04) starts at Ernst &
Young in September, and is meanwhile studying for the CPA exam. (Thanks
to Ben for the excellent choice of new phones - part of the gift of the
Class of 2004 - they have taken our commincations to a new level!) |
|
Marzouks in Pittsburgh |
Dan ('01) Marzouk got a promotion at Universal
Underwriters and he and Atara ('02) and their twin sons (Noach and
Binyamin) moved to Pittsburgh, where they bought a new home in the heart
of the Jewish community. |
|
Visiting Alumni in the Summertime |
Ronen ('99) and Chana Raizel Segal (and
their year-old Gittel Tova) spent a quality Shabbos with us on an "off-week" in
June. Rimma Altshuler ('02) stopped by Shabbos House
when in the area recently. She's still hard at work at a law firm in
Boston and was the first to tell us she read "The Rebbe's Army" by Sue
Fishkoff. Many have told us they read it since. |

Regards from... |
Shaun
Zeitlin ('01) works for the Town of Hempstead's (America's largest
town) payroll department and helps out a lot at a local synagogue near
home. He e-mails his sermons/talks - they're a fun read. Abe Saks ('01) is still at money.net where he
says things have picked up a lot, and still lives in Brooklyn - "where
else?" Dan Berns (graduated Connecticut College and attended
Shabbos House while he worked for Albany Molecular Research) lives now
in Largo Florida (near St Petersburg) where he teaches Science, and is
active in the Jewish Community and goes to Chabad there. He went to
Israel for the summer as a volunteer, a continued sign of his dedication
and love for Israel.

Harry Rubenstein's ('95) Regards from Israel |
"I have been to your website a couple of times
over the last two years or so and have been meaning to write you. I
guess you got to me first. Of course I remember Shabbos House. Many good
times were had there my three and a half years in Albany. I am
incredibly happy to see that Jewish life has grown considerably since I
left. Kol HaKavod! ... I have been living in
Israel for quite some time. Making aliyah was a natural progression for
me as a pro-Israel activist. I originally made aliyah with the intent of
serving in the IDF (I did a year and a half in tanks) and possibly
returning to the states, but alas, eight years later I am still here.
Life is generally good. My wife (who is from Jersey but I met here) and
I recently bought a home in Modi’in. I have worked at the Jerusalem Post
for almost three years now in several capacities. Currently, I am the
editor of the weekend entertainment supplement of the Jerusalem Post as
well the pop/rock music critic. My wife works for a non-profit
organization that benefits children in need....
My time in Albany is a time I will always cherish and I would
love to visit some time." Harry Rubenstein ('95) |
|
Back-to-School |
John Smoller ('03) is studying at C.W. Post graduate school
for Education (after working for an airplane parts supply comany). Joel Feuer
('99) is going back to graduate school in NYC, as well as running
his family's busy copy/mail shop in the heart of Brooklyn's Avenue M. Scott Weber
('02) has a full-time
internship at Parks Unit of the NYC Office of Management & Budget, while
he chuggs along towards a Masters in Public Administration at Baruch
College. He interned last fall for former President Bill Clinton in
Harlem.
